Regimental Associations

The Glenworple Highlanders
Founded in 1912

Below are some of the rules which govern The Glenworple Highlanders Society within The London Scottish Regiment.

Membership is open only to past members of 'A' Company, the London Scottish Regiment, 'G' (London Scottish) Company 51st Highland Volunteers and past and present members of 'A' (London Scottish) Company, The London Regiment and shall be limited to 25 in number.
Only those who in the opinion of members have performed meritorious service in these Companies or to the Regiment shall be eligible for election. Not more than two new members shall be elected in any one year.

To avoid any problems of rank at its meetings members of the Society shall be entitled to the honorary rank of Brigadier General as shown on their certificates of membership. Once elected to the Society, membership is for life. Those who find it difficult to attend are allowed to apply for Associate Membership thus creating a vacancy in the Ordinary Membership of the Society.

The origin of the Society in 1912 was that a number of members of 'A' Company were involved in going to Bisley to shoot on the ranges there. The father of one of the group was the Vicar of Worplesdon, a village very near to Bisley, and they found it convenient to call in there on their way back to London for some refreshment. In 1912 they decided to form the Society and since then it has met twice a year in the spring and autumn at the Regimental Headquarters in London for enjoyment of each other's company.

Many distiguished members of the Regiment of all ranks have been members of the Society, the Register of Members has now reached a total of 87 since its formation.
